Picture Merge Genius is a photo collage creator for Windows. It is an application that allows you to combine several pictures into one image that you can share with your friends or use to preserve memories in a special way.
The application is simple enough and offers two ways of creating photo montages. One of these is through a wizard that guides you through every step of the process: from selecting the dimensions of the image, to choosing the photos composing the collage. You have the of possibility of selecting many details, like resizing pictures to a preset size, keeping the aspect ratio, selecting a background color, as well as the number of columns and rows comprising the design. The result will be a grid-like pattern with pictures arranged in a rather structured manner.
The second method creates a blank image of a predefined width and height where you can add pictures from your PC using the navigation panel. Though it allows for more control over the design and arrangement of pics in the collage, it may be cumbersome, specially because pictures added preserve their original size, which forces you to resize each one manually, and results are not often satisfactory.
Selecting any particular image lets you resize it manually, or move it to another position in the collage. Likewise, you can use the integrated picture editor to crop and edit photos, flip and rotate, add text, and adjust the transparency level of each pic. It would be great if the app included some templates and other fancy elements like borders or backgrounds to custom and embellish the final image.
The application reads a total of 29 image formats and is able to output in JPG, PNG, GIF, and BMP with possibility of choosing the image quality. The 5-day trial version is fully functional and adds a watermark to the collage.
